pottery by Nancy AlexanderPottery is both art and science for me.

Art in the process of creating with the elements of earth, water and fire.
Science in the manipulation of these elements.
Art in the exploration of form and aesthetic appeal.
Science in the strength and function of a piece of work.

The making of pottery is physical and spiritual, requiring strength and gentle touch and engendering an inner peace.

pottery by Nancy AlexanderMy exploration began with an appreciation of Japanese and British pottery. The simplicity and elegance of the shapes of these vessels and the use of subtle colour in the glazes were visually appealing.

pottery by Nancy AlexanderMore recently I have incorporated Southwest influences into my work with the use of red clays and surface decoration. I have worked with clay since 1978.

I have been a member of both the Penticton Potters’ Guild and South Vancouver Island Potters’ Guild. I have participated in many workshops and programs. My work has been shown at the Lighthouse Gallery in Victoria and Fandango in Sidney. I show my work in my own studio, at various shows including Gorge on Art, Saanich Municipal Hall and the Gallery at Tulista Park in Sidney.

I use stoneware and porcelain clays which are fired to cone 6. My glazes are lead free and foodsafe. My studio and showroom are located in my home in Victoria, British Columbia. Please contact me by phone or e-mail to view showroom or to place a custom order.
